CeF3 Crystal

Cerium fluoride (CeF3) is a newly discovered inorganic scintillation crystal. It is one of the heavy and fast scintillators suitable for various high energy physics experiments. Since the scintillation process is fast (5~30ns), the light yield is reasonably great (as large as 4-5% of NaI:Tl) and the degradation at 104rad irradiation is less than 5% per unit radiation length, it would be very useful for the applications where high counting rates, good stopping power and nanosecond time resolution (The emission of CeF3 consists of a fast component with =5ns at 310nm and a slow one at 340nm. ) are important, such as medical imaging and  sciences.
